Privacy Policy
What we collect on this site, why we collect it, and how to make us delete it. In plain English, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody.
The short version: we collect what you type into our forms so we can reply, and we measure how the site gets used — including session recordings that never capture what you type into a field. We don't sell any of it. Email privacy@bigfox.ca to see or delete your data.
Who we are and what this covers
Big Fox Agency Inc. (“Big Fox”, “we”, “us”) is a digital marketing agency based in Calgary, Alberta. This policy explains what personal information we collect through www.bigfox.ca, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.It covers this website only. It does not cover the separate systems we operate on behalf of clients under contract, or any third-party site we link to.
What we collect
Information you give usWe only ask for what we need to answer you. Nothing on this site requires an account, and we do not take payments here.
- Contact form — your name, email address, phone number, the service you're interested in, and your budget range.
- Free audit requests (SEO, local, or PPC) — your website address and your email address.
- Checklist and guide downloads — your name and email address, plus which resource you asked for.
- Revenue calculator — your email address and the business figures you enter, such as your industry, leads per month, average deal value, and budget.
- Analytics — pages you view, how you arrived, roughly where you are (city-level, derived from your IP address), and your device and browser type.
- Session recordings and heatmaps — described in full in the next section.
- Performance data — anonymous page speed measurements used to find slow pages.
- Server logs — our host records standard request data, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.
Session recordings and heatmaps
We want to be direct about this one, because most sites bury it. We use Microsoft Clarity to record how visitors use this site. That means a playback of your visit may be created, capturing which pages you viewed, where you moved your mouse, what you clicked, and how far you scrolled. We also see aggregate heatmaps built from many visits. What you type into a form is not captured. Clarity masks the contents of input fields and drop-down menus in every masking mode, and that behaviour cannot be switched off. We use it to find confusing layouts and broken steps — not to watch individuals. We use this for our own product decisions. We do not sell recordings, and we do not use them to build advertising profiles. Microsoft processes this data as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Why we collect it
- To reply to your enquiry and prepare the audit or proposal you asked for.
- To send you the specific resource you requested.
- To understand which pages work, which confuse people, and what to fix.
- To measure whether our own marketing is worth what it costs.
- To keep the site secure and available.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and audit requests — kept while we are in contact and for up to two years afterwards, so we have a record of what was discussed. Then deleted.
- Client records — kept for as long as the engagement runs, plus any period Canadian tax and business-records law requires.
- Session recordings — retained by Clarity on Microsoft's standard schedule and then deleted automatically. We do not archive them ourselves.
- Analytics — retained in aggregate.
How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions travel encrypted and are delivered to a small number of named people who need them. Access to our analytics and recording tools is limited to accounts that require it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but if a breach ever put your information at real risk of significant harm, we would notify you and the appropriate privacy commissioner, as Canadian law requires.
Your rights
Under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete it, subject to records we are legally required to keep.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, including unsubscribing from our emails.
Children
This is a business-to-business site and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email privacy@bigfox.ca and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we add a tool that collects personal information, or change what we do with it, we update this page and move the date at the top. We do not quietly broaden what we collect and leave the policy stale — that is the whole point of publishing it.
